$216,472 to NECCS. With this donation, Martindale has exceeded its commitment to match some of the funds received from the province and we are most appreciative of their continuing support of this project.
In late March, there was also a major corporate fund-raising event held by our funding partner, Genesis Land Development. On the night of the event itself, over $130,000 was raised and Genesis will follow up with many of their partners to increase this total significantly in the coming months. As always, we would like to thank Genesis and our fund development committee for all their hard work in bringing us ever closer to our $15M fund-raising goal for our Genesis Centre of Community Wellness.

School council and the school community are excited to be following one of the teachers’ journey to Mount Everest. Mr. Andrew Brash left on March 25th for a 70-day attempt to conquer the majestic mountain. In 2006 Mr. Brash almost reached the peak only to assist in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, a mountaineer from Australia. Mr. Brash’s expedition can be followed on his web site www.andrewbrash.com We encourage you to follow Mr. Brash on his dream.
Police and communities working together
By Const. Paban DhaliwalDid you know that every community in the city has a police officer who’s dedicated to helping resolve community safety and security issues? Since 1998, each of Calgary’s policing districts has designated several “community liaison officers” who work with Calgarians every day to help keep this city safe.
The new Taradale elementary school
By Noshy KarbaniAs many residents are well aware of the new school being built in Taradale on Taravista Drive and Taradale Road. There has been tremendous progress made with the construction from the time they started grading the land last August. The boundaries for the playing fields are already in place, and on a nice day you will see many local children having a friendly game of soccer. Taradale has many young families living within its borders and the new school will just be the icing on the cake for us here. It will further unite our community and give us a focal point for our children.

A bit of visible Saddle Ridge history is no more!
By Greg SteinerHave you been at the hall lately? If so you will notice that the ice rink and debris from the hockey shacks are gone. On the 9th of April the rink boards, the chain-link fence, and the huge pile from what was the hockey shacks were carefully removed by an excavation company. There are few residents left in Saddle Ridge that can remember what the area used to look like back in 1970, when our community enjoyed the rink and the skating area just west of the hockey shacks. The newly constructed rinks were frequently used in the coldest months of winter.

I received a concern from residents in Martindale about the length of the Walk Light across 64th Ave. Please find below the response from the city of Calgary.
“We have reviewed the signal timings for 64th Avenue and Martindale Gate NE. The time provided for the WALK will remain the same and the Flashing DON’T WALK time will be increased. The WALK light will allow people to step off the curb and start walking across the street.
