Traveling by air can be very unfamiliar, disorienting, and stressful for many people. On the other hand it can also be very exciting and exhilarating.
I would like to talk a little about something called grounding which I believe is important to do, especially if you are going to spend a lot of time in the air. Being disconnected from the earth is not good for us physically, emotionally or spiritually, but there are ways to accomplish grounding even at 35,000 feet.
Grounding is the connection of the human energy field to the life force energy of the earth. Everything on and of the earth has life force energy flowing through it. This connection helps us to draw in the abundant flow of the Earth’s energy while at the same time allowing us to safely and easily dissipate any excess energy we do not need back into the earth. Unfortunately, when we don’t spend enough time outside, or if we spend a lot of time in the air, or are under a lot of stress our life force energy can become depleted. (People, animals, mountains, lakes and oceans all have this energy running through them. When we connect ourselves with the Earth it makes our personal energy stronger.)
If you are feeling weak and listless, or are prone to outbursts of anger there is a good chance you are not grounded. Also, if you feel you are flighty, spaced out, drift off into your own dream world, or fall asleep while meditating there is a good chance that becoming grounded will help calm and stabilize you.
People often ground themselves unconsciously. Some ways to do this are working in the garden, going for a walk in nature, and walking barefoot. You can even ground yourself eating healthy, organic foods, drinking clean water, and exercising. This can be very therapeutic allowing us to dissipate unhealthy emotions.
I would like to offer you a way to ground yourself consciously. To start with you should sit comfortably in a chair and make sure your feet are touching the floor. Close your eyes and take several deep breaths to help you to relax. I find that breathing in through my nose and breathing out through my mouth creating an audible sigh as I do so helps to release tension.
Now imagine that you are a tree and visualize your feet growing roots which reach into the center of the earth and anchor you to earth’s core. Feel any tension or discomfort in your body dissipating into the heart of our beautiful planet. Don’t worry that sending negative energy into the Earth will damage her as this is part of her job. She has the ability to absorb and dissipate negative energy very easily.
Next try to feel the life force energy of the earth traveling up through your roots into your feet, legs, torso and into your heart. Feel how light and joyful your heart begins to feel and see any darkness in your body dissipating. Take a couple more deep breaths and open your eyes. Alternatively, you can also imagine a grounding cord instead coming through you body, down through the base of your spine and into the earth. Another way you can ground yourself is by carrying a crystal or placing one between or under your feet while sitting(Black tourmaline, hematite and tiger’s eye are good stones for this.) If you use crystals be sure to cleanse them before use and then make sure to cleanse them after a few uses. Cleansing can be accomplished by simply placing them overnight in a Epsom salt and water solution.
I have had a lot of practice with grounding myself and I can do it simply by focusing my attention on being grounded. I can accomplish this even when I am flying in an aircraft or from my 2nd floor apartment. I usually feel it as a tingling in my feet and a sense of well-being and energy.
You may be wondering what all of this has to do with air travel. I believe that when we are away from the Earth’s force field for long periods of time we can become disconnected from this vital source of energy. I also believe that jet lag is a result of not being energetically connected to the Earth.
When you are seated in an airplane try to make yourself as comfortable as possible. If it is an especially long flight, it is a good idea to have frequent bathroom breaks or do leg exercises at your seat as your muscles can get very cramped after sitting in one spot for long periods of time. One way to accomplish this is by starting at your feet, tense your muscles one at a time for a few seconds, then release them, remembering to breathe deeply as you do so. It will help you to feel very relaxed and will allow your muscles to move.
Most importantly, be sure to drink lots of water. Water helps your body to release toxins and emotions which build up in your body. Aircraft cabins pump recycled air, which is very dry, so you need to keep hydrated. Remember that we are dehydrated long before we become thirsty.
In closing, I would just like to say “Happy Trails”. I hope this information helps you to have a wonderful, relaxing travel experience. And if you encounter stress, don’t forget to breathe.
