As many residents are well aware of the new school being built in Taradale on Taravista Drive and Taradale Road. There has been tremendous progress made with the construction from the time they started grading the land last August. The boundaries for the playing fields are already in place, and on a nice day you will see many local children having a friendly game of soccer. Taradale has many young families living within its borders and the new school will just be the icing on the cake for us here. It will further unite our community and give us a focal point for our children.
At the moment, children living in our area are bussed to Greenview Elementary School. This temporary location was a former school that was going to be closed down because of a lack of enrolment. At present, this school can only house approximately 550 children and it has now been capped. This means that it has reached its maximum enrolment, and any other children enrolling from Taradale (as of February 25, 2008) will be sent to another temporary school. The overflow enrolments are now being bussed to Chief Justice Milvain Elementary School. The school board has capped the new Taradale elementary school at a figure of 650 children. So already before the school has even opened its doors, it will be running near capacity. They anticipate the children being bussed to Chief Justice Milvain, and the number of Taradale children who were previously enrolled in other schools, to be at approximately 50. So this leaves anticipated totals for Taradale elementary to be at around 600, leaving some room for flexibility in terms of numbers.*
The school board has projected the opening of the new K–6 school (which they still have not named yet) to be in June 2009. Let’s hope the speed of construction continues, and we could see an earlier opening…fingers crossed!!!
