My name is Pat Buchanan, and I am the newly elected President of the Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association. This role will be a great challenge and a rewarding experience for me. I will get to work with some great and experience board members who collectively have given over 35 years in service to the Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association. Having only lived in Falconridge since 2002, I am definitely the “new kid on the block”.
In Castleridge and Falconridge, we have a large and ethnic community population. During most months of the year, our halls are booked to capacity. We also operate a before and after school care program (Buzz Club) and a Play-School program. We have terms renters for Kumon, the Resource Centre and the Boys & Girls Club. In addition, many groups use the FCCC for activities, such as Sparks, Dance, and Scouts.
Can you imagine the impact if there were no Falconridge/Castleridge Community Centre? Without a FCCA Board, volunteers and insufficient funds to operate, this could be a reality.
At this point in time, your Community Association is in desperate need of support in many areas. We need Board Members to assist in the operation of the Community Association. This would involve maybe 6 hours per month, less time than most full-time employees spend on “coffee breaks” in their job. The FCCA Board is the governing body of the entire Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association.
We also need volunteers for Bingo, which is one of the sources for funding to the operation of the FCCA. This is only a commitment of about 4-5 hours per month. It is one of the continuous sources of funding to cover the operation costs of the Falconridge/Castleridge Community Centre.
In May, 2008, we will be hosting a Meet and Greet with our Alderman, Jim Stevenson. Please take the time to come out and listen and ask questions of our new alderman. Also, please consider giving some of your time to your local community centre. The FCCA needs you and your community centre needs you.
