President’s Message – Taradale

By James Manley

We would like to thank SPRY designs for the great combined newsletter in keeping our communities informed of all the activities North of McKnight. It has been a pleasure to read all the activities and input from our neighboring communities. As the areas around us continue to expand, the support from each community will enable us to build a stronger and more viable community within Taradale.

We have had several concerns raised about: broken down vehicles, garbage disposals, and a number of large commercial vehicles with engines running all night, parked in backyards or on the street. Please contact the City of Calgary (311) with your concern. They will help to address your questions and provide you with answers. Please continue to email your questions or concerns to the association, as we will help find the answers or direct you to the correct department to speak with.

We have had some questions with respect to the new stop sign located at the corner of 64th Ave. NE and Tarington Road:

1. According to city policy, a stop sign is required at an intersection of a “major” road. 64th Ave. NE is presently classified as a major road with the intention to be a southbound stop.

2. Concerns with safety, the sidewalk on 64th Ave NE is presently hidden by a hedge line. Basically, when a pedestrian is walking eastbound on the sidewalk they are hidden almost right up to the ramp depression crossing Tarington. More concerns; if a child was on a bike, sees the crossing and thinks they have the right away (typically a depression would suggest) they may coast/walk right out in front of vehicle traveling southbound onto Tarington and may not even be seen until it’s too late.

We have forwarded this concern to the City Safety section at Traffic Engineering for review and comments. There are two intersections here. One being the 64th Ave NE at Tarington Road and the other is Tarington Road at Tarington Link/Tarington Park NE. The southbound stop is intended for vehicles to stop at Tarington Road at 64 Ave NE only. Vehicles stopping at Tarington Road at Tarington Link/Tarington Park are doing an inappropriate stop. Please make sure you come to a complete stop, for the safety of all.

Your board members have another busy February schedule with meetings concerning the Transit safety, NECCS, LRT expansion; Tri services (Police, fire and ambulance) new proposed development permits, new schools and keeping our community clean and safe.

Please feel free to email any questions or concerns you may have.
