President’s Message – Saddle Ridge

By Ron Rennie

Spring can’t be far away now, no matter what the Groundhog said way back in February.

We would like to get a summer sports program, soccer and T ball, for the youth in Saddle Ridge, so if you are interested or if you know someone who might be interested in helping us get this off the ground, please contact the community at saddleridgecommunity@shaw.ca. The SRCA will be holding a registration in early March. There are two beautiful new sports fields that have just become available for use in Saddle Ridge. This will be a community run league this year. We are attempting to hold several soccer clinics as well. These dates will be verified at a later time.

The North East Center of Community Society (NECCS) held a news conference on Feb. 5 2008 announcing a naming sponsor for the recreational complex. This is a major boost to this great facility for all three communities involved. A big thank you to the Saddle Ridge volunteers who sit on the Board that oversees this project, Carol Steiner, Greg Steiner, and to Consultant Grant Galpin, who also lives in Saddle Ridge. This facility will be something that the residents of Martindale, Taradale and Saddle Ridge will be able to enjoy for years to come.

Our annual membership drive is once again in full swing. If you have not renewed your membership or if you have never had a family membership this is the year to get one. It’s only $10. Email the SRCA at saddleridgecommunity@shaw.ca.

It seems like we just finished a civic election and here we are with a provincial election. The results will be out before this publication gets out to the communities, so congratulations to the winner. I’m sure you will have our best interest at heart. There are still rumblings about a federal election and with our current MP Art Hanger announcing his retirement we will have new representation. Make sure to get out and vote. It’s your right.

This will be the second issue of this wonderful publication. Please help to support these local advertisers and keep them in our North of McKnight communities,

May the luck of the Irish be with you on March 17, St Patrick’s Day.
