NE Centre of Community - NE Centre of Community Society (NECCS)
Great News for Ward 3! It was announced on February 5th that a long-term partnership agreement has been reached with Genesis Land Development Corporation to provide much needed sports, recreation, wellness and cultural services to the residents of northeast Calgary. Funding for the facility will also be provided by the City and private sector donations. The NE Centre of Community, slated for opening in 2011, will house a YMCA, a Calgary Public Library branch, a social services centre, indoor and outdoor sports facilities and space for community gatherings and special cultural events.
My sincere thanks to the many community volunteers who have dedicated countless hours to see this project through. Through their commitment, the vision has become a reality.
Upgrades to Calgary Transit’s Teleride System for Bus Schedule Information
Teleride (974-4000) is an automated phone system that provides schedule information to Calgary Transit customers. Bus arrival times at particular stops are calculated based on the schedules written for each bus route and the number of bus stops between time points. The system is updated manually twice daily to address any cancellations due to staff shortages or other disruptions. New software upgrades will allow for more frequent and detailed notations on the status of buses such as “This bus is currently running ten minutes behind schedule due to traffic congestion or adverse weather conditions.” Schedule information is also available through Transit’s website at www.calgarytransit.com.
Airport Trail Tunnel Update
To update you on this issue, I have been in further contact with the Calgary Airport Authority, the Federal and Provincial Governments, with City Council and Administration and am getting very positive feedback from all concerned. It is recognized by all that the Airport Trail Tunnel is a vital link for residents in the north east, for travelers from outside the City limits as well as for further commercial development. I will provide regular updates on this issue as discussions continue.
