Ward 3 Update

By Ald. Jim Stevenson

It has been an exciting and challenging few months as I have settled in here at City Hall and I have a few items of interest that I wanted to bring to your attention.

PLAN IT CALGARY PROJECT

Over the next 15 months, Plan It Calgary will develop a long-term plan for Calgary’s land use and transportation networks. The Plan will be guided by sustainability principles for land use and mobility that were developed from the imagineCALGARY long-range urban sustainability plan, City policy and the Smart Growth Principles approved by Council in January 2007.

You can access the online workbook and questionnaire at www.calgary.ca/planit. Comments received will be considered in the development of the long-term land use and transportation plan for Calgary. I encourage you to participate in this process so that your comments and concerns are heard!

NE LRT EXTENSION TO SADDLE RIDGE STATION

Earlier this month, City Council approved a further extension of the NE LRT line from the McKnight-Westwinds Station through the communities of Martindale and Saddle Ridge. Transportation Infrastructure will manage the design and construction of the extension. Preliminary public meetings were held in early December. Transportation Infrastructure will review the material gathered and follow-up public meetings will be held in early 2008 to provide responses to questions and comments received thus far, to outline further project developments and to discuss the next steps in the process.

WARD 3 UPDATE

I am in the preliminary phase of development of a Ward 3 Website and hope to have it up and running in the not too distant future. The webpage will contain items of interest to residents of Ward 3 including development plans, transportation and transit updates as well as links to various City services. I am hoping that this will be a valuable tool for everyone to keep abreast of Ward 3 and City-wide projects and developments.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and all my best for a great 2008!
