Personal Tid Bits

By Taradale Community Association

Take a few minutes to meet the members of the Taradale Community Association board. We have a very diverse group and are always looking to add additional volunteers.

Khalil Karbani, Vice President
I moved to Canada in 2001 from the UK, and I now run my own construction business. I have lived in Taradale for the past 3.5 years. I get a lot of satisfaction in being actively involved in my own community. Everyone can make a difference and every little effort does help and goes a long way to benefit our great community. I am
also involved in:

Vice President of NECCS
The $130 million dollar sports complex that is proposed to be built on the west side of Falconridge Blvd, just before Saddletowne Circle.

President of Al-Hedaya
Islamic Center
Trying to get kids involved with volunteer work and organizing events.

Chairman of Volunteers to Prisons (Division of MCC)
Liaising with Prison officials and volunteers for visiting inmates, provide help where possible

Sara Murray, Secretary
I have been a resident of Taradale since June 2002 and a member of the Taradale Community Association since 2005. I am proud to be able to work with an extremely dedicated group of volunteers in the Community Association who believe wholeheartedly in developing one’s community and creating opportunities for residents.

Working full-time and a mother of two small children, I did not think I would have time for an additional volunteer commitment. I have discovered the time commitment is minimal and the impact made by a Community Association is huge.

Allan Barton, Board Member
I am interested in what is going on in the community, and I will try to make a difference in improving our area. My hobbies are carpenter work, gardening, boating, fishing and camping. I also belong to a wonderful church. I have lived in Taradale for 10 years.

Jane Barton, Board Member
I’d like to get to know the people in our area better and try and help make it a better place for all to live. I also keep an eye out to watch for danger in our area. My hobbies are camping, fishing, boating, and gardening. I’ve lived in Taradale for 10 years.

Noshy Karbani, Board Member
I have lived in Taradale for the last 3.5 years. I have always been very active in my community and children’s school. I guess that was from growing up seeing my parents actively involved in the community. I love to give my time to a cause greater than my own.

In addition to sitting on the board of the Taradale Community Association, I’m also:
• Mother of four
• Homemaker and part time WestJetter
• Secretary for the Parents Council at Terry Fox Jr. High School

Margaret Patton, Board Member
I’ve lived in Taradale for 14 years. In the past few years, I’ve seen this community grow in leaps and bounds. A new Catholic school is already in operation and now a new public school will be opened in September 2008. If you want to register your children please contact Green View School.

Ann-Marie Sperling, Board Member
I have lived in Taradale for over 3 years, but have lived in the general NE area for 20 years. I have been a part of the community association for 2.5 years, including being a part of the Multicultural Festival in 2006.

I keep busy with my full-time job, my family and also volunteering with my church, which I play an active part in.
