Ward 3 Update
It has been an exciting and challenging few months as I have settled in here at City Hall and I have a few items of interest that I wanted to bring to your attention.
PLAN IT CALGARY PROJECT
Over the next 15 months, Plan It Calgary will develop a long-term plan for Calgary’s land use and transportation networks. The Plan will be guided by sustainability principles for land use and mobility that were developed from the imagineCALGARY long-range urban sustainability plan, City policy and the Smart Growth Principles approved by Council in January 2007.

Hear that train a coming?!
CTrain Service finally arrives at McKnight Westwinds. It was quite a day, a few years of working with the City and various partners a new CTrain station was opened. The CTrain saga started with Alderman John Schmal, went through the paces with Alderman Larocque and ended with Alderman Jim Stevenson as the MC for the day. MP Art Hanger was there, MLA Shiraz Shariff, Premiere Ed Stelmach, Alderman Andre Chabot, and Ray Jones. Also in attendance were various members of the communities of Saddle Ridge, Martindale, Falconridge/Castleridge, Taradale all of whom worked with the City to create the CTrain station design that you see today. It was quite an experience and one that I am proud to say I was a part of.

Message from the SRCA President
The History of New Year Celebration
The tradition of the New Year’s Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar.
With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

A long time coming
Thursday, December 13th marked a milestone for Saddle Ridge. We finally got our grocery store. Members of the Saddle Ridge Community Association and Taradale Community Association joined Alderman Jim Stevenson, and MLA Shiraz Shariff for a first hand look of the new store. The three communities of Saddle Ridge, Martindale and Taradale have worked over the past six years trying very hard to get this store opened in Saddletowne Circle. There are times when we thought the day would never come.

Outdoors :: Urban wildlife adventures
Late November and early December have proven to be quite interesting for me at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. While working with a group of grade 3 students from Elbow Park elementary during their week of Bird School at the end of November at IBS, we had some memorable days. The last day of Bird School that week though had to be the most memorable for these students.
We started off the morning with me releasing two Canada Geese that had been in for repairs at the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. The day was sunny and surprisingly warm for that time of year. There were a thousand or two Canada Geese out on the Bow River at the time so it was just a matter of opening the cage doors and having them run out and fly out to their relatives on the Bow.
